NaNoWriMo 2013 Update 2

Well I had planned to do an update last weekend but I went to the city to do some shopping and the trip ended up being two and a half days long due to getting stuck by bad weather. Because of this I didn’t get to post an update (I find posting on my tablet to be a pain) and it also means I didn’t do any writing during that time.

As it sits right now I’m at 33,866 words. Which has me about 3000 words behind if I include today’s writing. I’m not all that worried, I’ve been more behind in the past and have still managed to win in the end.

I’m hoping to spend a few solid hours writing this weekend to catch up and hopefully go beyond the word count goal. If all goes well I will hit 50k before the end of the month, if not I will finish last minute.

NaNoWriMo 2013 Update

Well it’s been a week since NaNoWriMo started and I have to say I’m doing pretty darn good. I managed to get a whopping 3500 words in the first day. Then I spent the next few days throwing random words down but none of them seemed to make much sense. That’s the problem with me not having the time to plan things out, it gets ugly really quickly.

But then day five arrived and I had such a crazy amount of inspiration that not only did my writing make sense and start to actually turn into a story but I also wrote over five thousand words that day! It felt invigorating! The only downside is I ended up having to stop writing because I was tired and knew I couldn’t stay up late.

I’ve had a pretty solid start this year and I’m currently sitting at 15118 words. Today’s goal is 16666. I haven’t done any writing yet today but I am confident I can easily reach if not go above that goal.

Are you participating in NaNoWriMo? Are you keeping up with your word count or falling behind?

NaNoWriMo 2013

So tomorrow is November 1st.

Wait November 1st? That means NaNoWriMo is starting tomorrow! And I’m not prepared in the slightest! Hold on a moment while I run around my house in a full blown panic.

Okay, now that that’s over with I have to deal with the reality of the situation. I am not prepared for NaNoWriMo this year…at all. The year has gone by too fast, I’ve had too many things on the go (as I’m sure you could tell by the overall abandonment of this blog over the last couple of months) and I haven’t planned a single thing.

Why not do it pantser style?

Because I do not do well writing by the seat of my pants. I just don’t. Tried it once and it did not work out well. Yes I got my word count that year but it was ugly. So I have less than 10 hours before NaNoWriMo officially starts for me and so I have that much time to plan…something to write this year.

Wish me luck. Because I’m going to need it.

NaNoWriMo Survival Kit

In a little less than 12 hours NaNoWri Mo will be starting for me. Am I panicking yet? Well, yes, just a little bit. But only because I still haven’t decided which of my many ideas I want to write this year. I’m hoping that when midnight hits so will inspirationa dn the right story will shine and I can get to writing. If not, well, maybe I’ll just roll a dice or something to pick. I can’t spend the first few days of NaNo still deciding what to do.

But picking a story isn’t everything. There other things important to completing NaNoWriMo. Many participants will have what they call the NaNoWriMo Survival Kit. It is those items that you must have in order to reach your goal. Obviously they vary from person to person, though some items are the same for everyone. I went to the store today to pick up the last things I needed. So here is my survival kit.

First up we have snacks. An absolute must since most of my time will be spent in front of the keyboard typing away furiously. Now I realize this is all junk food, but don’t worry, my husband will be cooking lots of healthy meals to counteract all the sugar and junk I will be consuming. So we have chips, Hot Dog and Sour Cream & Dill flavors, Twizzler Pull-n-Peel, Junior Mints, Bits & Bites, Reese Cups and Twix. Not pictured are Corn Nuts because I couldn’t find the bag, I know they are around here somewhere.

Next is drinks. I can’t live without Dr. Pepper, so it makes sense that it is an important addition to my survival kit. This years it’s Cherry Dr. Pepper, because it’s new and delicious. I also bought a bunch of Peach Drink mix, this stuff is so good!

Last but not least is my misc pile. Here are my necessary note books and pens. My DS and a few games for when I need a small break from writing. Lip Balm and hand cream because the house is freakishly dry right now and I desperately need them. Not pictured is my netbook, which I do almost all my writing on, it is only touched when I do NaNoWriMo or go on vacations. I may occassionally use my desktop for writing but the bulk of it will be on the netbook. Oh and flash drives, also not pictured, but I always back up my novel constantly on two different flash drives.

Are you participating in NaNoWriMo? If so what’s in your survival kit? If you are participating, feel free to add me as a writing buddy, my user name is: Temba

NaNoWriMo Fast Approaching

It’s been a bit quiet here lately and that’s for a number of reasons. The last week was a distraction filled mix of everything under the sun including a sick child, a sick puppy and a husband away dealing with family things. On top of that NaNoWriMo is just over a week away. For those who don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, it’s a writing challenge that happens the month of November and it is to write fifty thousand word novel in thirty days. This is the fourth year I will be participating and the last three years I have successfully met the word count goal.

This year I’m having a tough time deciding what to write. There are so many ideas stored in my notebooks that I want to write them all but it would be darn difficult to flop back and fourth between multiple stories in order to reach the word count. I might just have to roll the dice or put all the ideas into a ha and drawn one out in order to choose.¬†Either way I am terribly excited about getting to do some major writing.

Before that starts however I have a few more books to read and review. So stay tuned and look for those reviews in this coming week. Hopefully I can get all the books read I wanted to this month before it ends.

October Projects

Is it seriously October already? This year has flown by way too fast for my liking. It felt like yesterday was January. But since there is nothing I can do abotu how fast or slow time goes by I’ll just have to soldier on. So October is going to be a relatively busy month for me. I have NaNoWriMo prep to do, which yikes I haven’t even started yet even though I mentioned last week that I was going to be starting it. I have an enormous list of books I want to read this month, not only because I love books but I also am going to prepare book reviews ahead of time for the month of November so I can concentrate nearly all of my time on writing my novel instead of reading and working on reviews. The list sits at around thirty books right now, which should be doable if I keep up with them. Of course there’s one big thing that could interrupt that plan.

That one thing, is MMO’s. After quitting Star Wars: The Old Republic back in August I took a complete break from gaming. I have to admit it was nice to focus on something other than games for a while, namely reading books. However, with the latest World of Warcraft expansion out now, some of my old SW:TOR guildies still poking me about playing Rift and some other guildies wanting to start back up int SW:TOR my gaming side has flared up big time. I have started playing Rift casually, it’s free to play until level 20 but I’ve nearly hit that mark already. So now I need to make a decision, which game will I decide to play during what little free time I have? Wow, SW:TOR or Rift? I can only afford to play one so I don’t have the option of picking up all three, because honestly if I could afford it I would never leave my computer in order to give each game the attention it deserves. Oddly enough I’m kind of leaning towards WoW. Oh but wait! My best friend also recently started telling me about Lord of The Rings Online, which is also free to play, and showing me all the horse mounts you can get. Dang! Now I want to play that one too. At least it’s free?

So as you can see I have a slight gaming dilemma on my hands. Oh, did I also mention I really want to play board games lately too? I blame watching all the Table Top episodes on Geek and Sundry for that. Nothing wrong with board games though since it’s something I can do with my husband and son.

So needless to say, October and November are going to be extremely busy months for me but I am definitely up to the challenge. The first step though is to make a very large to do list, since I live off of lists and without them my world turns to chaos and is taken over by procrastination. I better get to it, the first day of the month is already past the half way point. Wish me luck!

NaNoWriMo Prep Time

In a little over a month NaNoWriMo will be starting up once more. This yearly event that happens every November, and now more recently June and August thanks to their summer version, gives writers the opportunity to challenge themselves and truly write when there may have been distractions and reasons not to. For the month f November writers will attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days.

This will be the third year I have been participating in NaNoWriMo and I am very much looking forward to it. I’m hoping to keep up with my winning streak, though I won’t go into my failures with the summer version of this challenge, and once again hit my 50,000 word goal.

Though I have a month before this starts I’ve already begun to work on planning what I will be doing this year. Yesterday I pulled out my notes and files from last year and began seeing what I had got done, what had been changed from the original plan as time went on and what needs to happen next. The plan was to write the second novel in a series, the first of which I wrote during last years challenge. Knowing I would need a quick refresher on where I left off last year I took the time to read over things. Then an idea hit me, a great and wonderful idea. So I began frantically writing it down not wanting to lose it. A good thing right? Wrong!

The problem? It had nothing to do with my plan for this year and was in fact the makings of a new novel. Dang! The thing is, I knew that if I didn’t give this idea some attention, and it’s still currently nagging me for more, than come November I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on what I wanted to write because this other idea would be shoving it’s way into the light. So for now, I’m jotting down these ideas and hoping I have enough time before NaNoWriMo starts to work out a plan for my intended writing project.

My other small project before NaNoWriMo starts is to do a massive amount of reading so that during the month of November I still have book reviews to post in amid the NaNoWriMo updates since nearly all of my time that month will be devoted to writing and not reading. I have a list of books that take top priority for this, namely those I was send for the purpose of reviewing and have already begun to work down that list, I am hoping I can get them all done by October 31st.

Will you be participating in NaNoWriMo this year? Do you know what you will be writing or are you a write by the seat of your pants type?
